FERCHAU reinforces its position in shipbuilding and offshore wind technology

Engineering and IT service provider acquires Rostock-based Neue Warnow Design & Technology GmbH.

Gummersbach-based FERCHAU Engineering GmbH acquired 100% of the shares of Neue Warnow Design & Technology GmbH (henceforth referred to as NWDT) on 1 January 2019. NWDT specialises in engineering services for ship design and wind technology. In future the company will be managed by the joint Managing Directors Guido Gomille and Imre Somodi. Guido Gomille also works for FERCHAU Engineering as Sales Director for the East sales region.

"FERCHAU has already established itself as having a high level of engineering expertise in shipbuilding as well as in the maritime supply industry and offshore wind power systems with its branches in Rostock, Schwerin and Greifswald," explains Karsten Schulz, Head of FERCHAU's Rostock branch. Guido Gomille goes on to explain the reasons behind the acquisition: "NWDT is a company with long-standing relationships with reputable marine and industrial customers as well as employees with in-depth knowledge and expertise in shipbuilding and offshore wind power construction. Dovetailing both companies will enable us to develop considerable synergies in the future," continues Gomille. "Combining the expertise of both companies offers excellent opportunities for safeguarding our existing market share and gaining additional market share. This underpins the FERCHAU corporate strategy, which is focused on growth to remain competitive both nationally and internationally." Following the takeover, NWDT will continue as a stand-alone company and can rely on FERCHAU's strong engineering network in the future.

Meeting rising demand in the Asian market
The takeover elevates FERCHAU itself to becoming one of the largest and most high-performing engineering service providers in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania region. "We want to continue to put all our efforts into fulfilling customers' noticeably increasing demand. Our mid-term goal is therefore to increase the number of employees in the region to 300," explains Guido Gomille. At the same time, FERCHAU continues to expand its international expertise in shipbuilding and offshore wind technology: NWDT already operates as an established service provider to customers in the USA and the Netherlands.

FERCHAU hopes, in particular, that this increased workforce and technical expertise will meet the rising demand for cruise ships in the Asian market. "This acquisition brings together two strong companies, FERCHAU and NWDT, combining their expertise to support regional and international customers with broad-based knowledge and expertise," continues Imre Somodi. The joint portfolio of services offered by both service providers includes detailed designs, such as are required for the construction of ship hulls, machinery and pipework, as well as ventilation, cabling and deck coordination. Large-scale and long-term projects, including the construction of entire vessels, can now also be undertaken.

FERCHAU Engineering GmbH

Currently there are 8,100 engineers, IT consultants, technicians and technical draughtsmen working at FERCHAU Engineering GmbH in over 100 branches and sites and in over 100 engineering offices and project groups (Status: 31.12.2017). FERCHAU operates in seven divisions: mechanical and plant engineering, electrical engineering, vehicle engineering, information technology, aerospace engineering and shipbuilding and marine engineering. The engineering and IT service provider offers its customers three service modules: In the field of Engineering Competence, the company is able to take on entire work packages, working either at the customer's premises, or in its own engineering offices. In its second field of expertise, Engineering Support, the engineering and IT service provider's skilled personnel assist customers in situ. In the third field, Managed Services, FERCHAU supports its customers by combining procurement processes for engineering and IT services.

Neue Warnow Design & Technologie GmbH
